“Do we ever really know anyone? Are things always as they seem? Welcome to Rockland County. “

 

These were the original opening remarks that were going to be used on Rockland County’s opening theme. By the time the show aired, it had been reduced to just “Welcome to Rockland County.” But the concept still applies to the show. This is a soap opera about secrets and relationships. A show where the characters will evolve over time and where first impressions may not always be lasting ones.

Rockland County debuted on March 23, 2005, and airs on Wednesdays on the show’s website and on a few internet radio stations. You can listen to the show (usually around fifteen minutes) or you can read a transcript, or both. The audience has grown each week which is hopefully a good sign for this soap that takes place in New York’s smallest county.

Rockland County, or RC, is the story of the Ramos, Morgan and Givens families: their relationships, their struggles and their deepest, darkest secrets. What is the history of Barbara’s relationship with Damien? What is she hiding from her past? What are Arden and Brian’s parents like and how did things get so bad that Arden had to shoot her mother’s boyfriend? Did Paul Ramos really kill Caroline’s sister, Julia? As the stories develop, with every new answer, there will be a multitude of new questions.

But there will also be romance. Dante Ramos was instantly smitten with Arden Morgan when her car broke down on the interstate. Angela Givens has a new love interest she met online. Damien Givens is in love with Barbara Whitman. What these couples will face will not be the standard daytime soap love triangle. These characters are complex and the situations they will face with either drive them together or drive them apart.

RC is a spin-off of Scripts & Scruples and, as a sister show, will continue to focus on day to day relationships that we all face in life: between lovers, siblings, co-workers and enemies. Dr. Brian Morgan and Dan Levin, two characters that debuted on S&S, have crossed over to RC and will remain on the canvas. Brian will appear on both shows in the short-term.

Here is a run down of the major characters:

Barbara Whitman (played by Anne Sayre) is a woman who wants the finer things in life. She hasn’t always had them, but is now living with the richest man in Rockland County, Paul Ramos. There are just two problems: she’s having an affair with Paul’s son’s best friend, Damien, and she is hiding her secret past. Barbara has always wanted to have class and to fit into society life. She is able to pull it off, most of the time.

Paul Ramos (played by Nick Sullivan) is the show’s patriarch, a man who is driven for success. His weakness is his son, Dante, the only person he has truly loved in years, and a person he wants to control. His new relationship with Barbara has started to melt his cold heart, but what will he do when he finds out she’s cheating on him?

Dante Ramos (played by Stephen Seidel) is struggling to find his way in the world. He loves the good life his father has provided, but wants to prove he can make it on his own. He has been somewhat of a player, but has quickly become smitten with Arden Morgan in a way no other girl has affected him.

Arden Morgan (played by Abby Wathen) came to New York from Vermont after shooting her mother’s abusive boyfriend. She’s looking for her brother, Brian, to protect her, and may find more than a friendship with Dante Ramos. She comes across as a sweet young girl, but there’s an edge there that will come to light.

Angela Givens (played by Delaina Dixon) is a psychiatrist at the Rockland Psych Center. She has a close relationship with her brother, Damien, but has struggled to find true love. Her most intense relationship was with Manny Ramos, who recently returned to town. She’s also intrigued by her new online friend. Should she be concerned about the anonymous love letter she received?

Damien Givens (played by Gavin Houston) is a romantic. He can tough and can take care of himself, but he wants to believe in love. He loves Barbara Whitman and isn’t thinking about what consequences their relationship will have on his life and his relationship with best friend, Dante.

Caroline Hart (played by Erika Crocco) is a woman focused on her career. And revenge. She is convinced Paul Ramos killed her sister, Julia, and is always looking for a way to stick it to him. She has spent many years working overtime at Rockland Construction, a rival company to Paul’s L&R.

Manny Ramos (played by Rick Ojeda) has recently returned to Rockland after a five year absence. His first stop was the Rockland Psych Center to find former love, Angela. He has not been accepted into the Ramos family by his brother, Paul. Manny feels he is a stronger man now and can take on Paul if necessary.

Brian Morgan (played by Don Money) is a burn specialist at St. John Hospital in New York. He was recently surprised to see his sister, Arden, in New York and to find out what has happened in her life. He will juggle his career, his sister and a new love in the coming months.

In addition to the core cast, RC will feature a variety of guest stars and recurring players. The first guest star was Kurt McKinney, who appeared on the April 27th episode as Benny. Look for other well-known daytime soap actors to appear on RC later this spring and summer.

As a weekly show, Rockland County will hopefully be easy to follow for fans and you’ll see the show and website continue to grow and improve as the audience grows. A mix of family drama, humor and intrigue will be the show’s signature and you’ll find a bit in every episode.

As an internet based series, RC will feature some interactive elements for fans including maps, polls and games. You’ll also be seeing Channel 6 News video reports from time to time as breaking news happens. There is a message board available to ask questions, discuss the show and to provide your honest opinions. I invite everyone to listen to the show and let us know what you think.
