INT. ELIJAH’S APARTMENT - DAY

ELIJAH is trying to move the couch to a new location when ASHLEY walks in the open apartment door.

ASHLEY

I see you’re rearranging things now that Arden is gone.

ELIJAH

(very unhappy to see her)

Oh God.  What do you want?

ASHLEY

I figured you could use a shoulder to cry on since Arden moved out and into the Ramos estate with Dante.

ELIJAH

Maybe I do, but yours would be the last shoulder I would want to get near.

ASHLEY

You might as well be nice to me, Elijah.  We’re in the same boat you know.  We tried everything we could to break up Dante and Arden for months and nothing worked.  All we accomplished making them hate us.

ELIJAH

Hey, I was doing just fine ingratiating myself into Arden’s life until your brother’s idiot boyfriend ruined our end of summer party.

ASHLEY

You’re blaming my brother for that?  First of all, you got drunk at your party and starting making accusations against me which made Arden suspicious.

Flashback to the end of summer party at Elijah and Arden’s apartment where a drunken Elijah is talking with Arden.

ELIJAH

Look at those two.

ARDEN

Huh?

ELIJAH

Dante and Ashley.  She’s totally after him you know.

ARDEN

What?  Come on.

ELIJAH

Arden, it’s so obvious.  And Dante know it too.  He’s eating it up, look at him.

ARDEN

No.  Ashley’s my friend.  She would never go after my boyfriend.

ELIJAH

You’re so naïve.  Beautiful and naïve, Arden.

ARDEN

I think you’ve had too much to drink, Elijah.

ELIJAH

Hey, if you don’t believe me, go ask them.

ARDEN

Fine.   I will.

End of flashback.

ASHLEY

Second, Cyrus’s premonitions about your mother, who wasn’t even invited by the way, and her subsequent arrest have nothing to do with it.

Flashback to Miranda’s arrival at the end of summer party.

MIRANDA

Hello everyone.  Sorry to interrupt.  Elijah didn’t tell me about the party.  What are we celebrating?

CYRUS

(moans)

Oh.

IAN

Cyrus, are you alright?

CYRUS

I’m getting a flash or something.  A really bad vibe like when I’ve had a premonition.

ASHLEY

Oh God, Ian.  I told you to keep him quiet about all that.

IAN

What’s it about?

CYRUS

It’s you!  (points to Miranda)

MIRANDA

Me?!!  Elijah, who is this?

CYRUS

I’m Cyrus Connor.  I know this might sound crazy, but do you know a woman named Caroline Hart? (care-o-line)

ELIJAH

What about her, Cyrus?

CYRUS

You’re the one who tried to hit her with the car.

ASHLEY

Ian, please!!!  Shut him up!

IAN

Cyrus, are you sure about that?

MIRANDA

Look, I don’t know who you are, but you’re nuts.  I hardly know the woman.

ASHLEY

Ian, get him out of here.  You’re ruining the party.

CYRUS

Yes, I think we should go.  This feeling is so strong.  But I’m sure I’m right.

End of flashback.

ELIJAH

Please.  That idiot had some premonition about my mother hitting Caroline Hart with a car and the next thing you know the cops are arresting her.  No matter how much I denied it, I don’t think Arden fully believed I knew nothing about it.

ASHLEY

Wah, wah.  Cry me a river.  Blame Ian or Cyrus or me all you want, but the simple fact is that Arden didn’t want you.  You put your best moves on her and she rejected you.  So get over yourself.

ELIJAH

I really can’t stand you.  Do you have any idea how much I hate your guts?

ASHLEY

I haven’t done a damn thing to you.  Look, I brought a bottle of vodka as a peace offering.  We can celebrate Arden and Dante’s new living arrangement together, if you’ll get off your high horse.

ELIJAH

I’m not celebrating anything with you, Ashley.  You may have given up on trying to worm your way into Dante’s life, and his money, but I haven’t give up on Arden.  She and I belong together.

ASHLEY

You’ve got to be kidding me.  Are you a glutton for punishment or what?

ELIJAH

I’m a patient man.  Dante’s life is in turmoil now with my mother’s bombshell at the trial.  The right opportunity may present itself to me soon, and I’m going to be there to take it when it does.
