PAUL
is sitting in his study when CAROLINE walks in unannounced.
CAROLINE
Good
evening, Paul.
PAUL
Oh
God, who let you in?
CAROLINE
Dante. And he even told me where
to find you.
PAUL
Remind
me to demote him tomorrow.
CAROLINE
Look,
Paul. We should talk. I saw Dan Levin the other day and he gave me some
new information that I found quite shocking.
PAUL
Well,
are you going to share it with me, or do I have to read your mind?
CAROLINE
He
told me that the night she died, Julia told him he was Dante’s biological
father. He had repressed that memory all
these years until now. Can you believe
that?
PAUL
Which
part? That it’s true or the fact that he
claims to just now remember this little piece of information.
CAROLINE
Wait
a minute. You knew about this? Paul, why didn’t you tell me?
PAUL
Since
when do I tell you anything? We’re
mortal enemies in case you’ve lost your memory too.
CAROLINE
I
would think you would be worried that Dan would blurt this out to someone, even
Dante, since your hell bent on keeping Dante’s adoption a secret.
PAUL
If
you must know, Caroline, I only found out about this last year myself. Julia kept a journal that I didn’t even know
about until a few years ago and my cousin, Carlos, had it in his possession. But after he died, I managed to get my hands
on it.
CAROLINE
I
can’t believe that Julia knew the child you adopted was Dan’s but never said a
word to either one of us. We shared
everything.
PAUL
Apparently not.
CAROLINE
Does
the journal say who Dante’s biological mother was? I tried to get Dan to tell me who it was, but
he didn’t want to talk about it.
PAUL
All
I have is a name, Kara (care-uh). No
last name, no information. I’ve been
trying to get into the damned psych ward to talk to Dan but they’ll never let
me see him.
CAROLINE
Do
you remember Dan ever dating a Kara? You
two were pretty close at one point.
PAUL
No,
I don’t. Whoever this woman is was kept
a secret from me. One of many secrets my
stepbrother never bothered to share.
ANGELA,
BRIAN and EVE are sitting at the dining room table having just finished dinner.
BRIAN
That
was delicious, Angela. Thanks for making
dinner for us tonight.
ANGELA
Well,
I’m not much of a cook, but I’m glad you enjoyed it.
EVE
The
meat was a bit salty but other than that it wasn’t half bad.
BRIAN
Mom!
EVE
Look,
Angela, I wanted to thank you again for letting me stay here a few more
days. You are such a sweet girl.
ANGELA
Oh,
why thank you, Mrs. Morgan. I have to
admit, I had the feeling you didn’t really like me.
EVE
Now
why on earth would you think something like that?
BRIAN
Mom,
maybe you can give Angela and I some alone time. That’s been hard to come by the past few
days.
EVE
Oh,
well, I can take a hint. I’ll be
upstairs in my room.
Eve
gets up and walks upstairs to the guest bedroom.
BRIAN
I
can not believe you agreed to let her stay on here.
ANGELA
It’s
not forever. Just a few days, tops.
BRIAN
Just
don’t trust her, Angela. I know it’s a horrible
thing to say about your own mother, but that woman is always up to
something. We’ll be much better off when
she’s long, gone from here.
