DANTE
and ASHLEY have just entered the family room.
DANTE
And
this is family room. My Dad spends a lot
of time in here at night if he’s not in his study.
ASHLEY
This
house is totally unbelievable. I have
never seen anything like it.
DANTE
Well,
you have now.
ASHLEY
I
can’t believe you grew up in this place with servants and everything you could
possibly want at your fingertips.
DANTE
It’s
not all sunshine and roses, believe me.
ASHLEY
It
beats the hell out of the house I grew up in that’s for sure.
Paul
walks in.
PAUL
Oh,
hi there. I didn’t realize you had
company, Dante.
DANTE
Hello,
Dad. You remember, Ashley, right?
PAUL
Yes. Nice to see you again, Ashley.
ASHLEY
You too, Mr. Ramos (ray-mos).
PAUL
And
where is
DANTE
She’s
working. Things have been a little tense
lately.
PAUL
After
what Barbara did to this family, I’m sure they have.
DANTE
PAUL
Maybe
not, but don’t you think it’s a little odd that she and her mother are still
staying in our guest house?
DANTE
They’re
both looking for places of their own.
What do you want me to do? Kick
them out?
ASHLEY
(feel awkward)
Uh,
I think I should go freshen up. Dante,
where…??
DANTE
Down the hall and to the left.
ASHLEY
Thanks.
Ashley
walks away.
PAUL
Dante,
what exactly is going on between you and this Ashley girl?
DANTE
Nothing, Dad. She’s
PAUL
Well
it’s not a museum.
DANTE
Dad,
I can bring any of my friends over here that I want. What’s the problem?
PAUL
Did
I say there was a problem? I just think it’s
a bit odd to see you with this lovely, young woman when the person you swear to
love so much is nowhere around. If
ANGELA
and BRIAN are sitting on the couch talking about their day.
ANGELA
I
guess I was kidding myself. I don’t know
how I thought I could work with Karen and put everything that’s happened out of
my mind.
BRIAN
It
will probably get easier over time.
ANGELA
I
hope so.
They
hear a knock on the door.
BRIAN
I
wonder who that could be.
ANGELA
Let’s
find out.
Angela
walks over to the door and opens it and sees Barbara.
ANGELA
Barbara. Hi.
BARBARA
Hi Angela. Is my nephew here? I need to talk to him.
ANGELA
Sure. Come in.
Barbara
walks in and Angela closes the door.
BRIAN
Aunt
Barbara. Where have you been? Arden and I have been looking everywhere for
you.
BARBARA
I’m
sure you have. I’m sorry I haven’t been
in touch, Bri, but I needed some time to myself.
BRIAN
How
are you? We’ve been so worried about
what Paul Ramos (ray-mos) did to you after the
wedding.
BARBARA
I’m
still reeling from it all, but what can I do.
And Angela, I’m not even sure what to say. Damien and I, it just happened.
ANGELA
Well,
that makes two of us. Damien speaks very
highly of you, Barbara, so I’m not going to get in the middle of that.
BARBARA
Thanks.
BRIAN
So
Barbara, why did choose now to track me down?
Did something happen?
BARBARA
I’m
afraid so, Bri.
I know this is going to come completely out of the blue, but… Your father has been in prison in
BRIAN
(stunned)
What? You found Dad?
BARBARA
In a way. But there’s more. Frank and some other inmates escaped from
Fishkill and are currently on the loose.
ANGELA
Oh
my God. Why was he in prison?
BARBARA
For
a number of things, not the least of which was armed robbery.
BRIAN
I
don’t know what to say. It’s been so
long, I wasn’t sure if he was dead or alive.
BARBARA
I
know, Bri. But
look, he knows that we all live in
