BRIAN
is talking with ANGELA in her office before he starts his shift.
ANGELA
I
can’t believe today is the big day.
BRIAN
You
knew it was coming. Have you figured out
what you’re going to say to Karen when she arrives?
ANGELA
Oh,
believe me, I have a Plan A, B, C and so on. I’m just not convinced any of them are right.
BRIAN
Listen
to your gut, Angela. I know you feel bad
because Karen tried to kill herself, but that doesn’t erase everything she did
to you last year.
ANGELA
I
know. But when it all happened, I told
myself I would push to have her fired from the hospital, but now I can’t seem
to bring myself to do that. Technically,
she didn’t commit any crimes or violate hospital policy. What she did was violate our friendship.
Karen
knocks on the half open door and walks in.
KAREN
Oh. Hi there.
ANGELA
Hello
Karen.
BRIAN
I
better be going so I’m not late for my shift in the
new burn unit. I’ll call you later.
ANGELA
Okay. Bye.
Brian
leaves.
KAREN
I
didn’t mean to chase him off.
ANGELA
No,
he had to go anyway.
KAREN
Look,
Angela. You and I need to clear the air
here, as much as we can. It was very
hard for me to come back to work today, knowing that everyone is aware of what
happened with me. But I’ve been having
some good sessions with Dr. Keller and I feel like the time is right.
ANGELA
Karen,
I’m still totally confused and angry and completely at a loss over the whole
secret admirer thing, but I know that the only way to get past this awkwardness
is just to let it go.
KAREN
Do
you think you can do that?
ANGELA
I’m
not sure I have a choice.
KAREN
Oh
Angela, that’s so good to hear.
ANGELA
But
look, don’t confuse my wanting to have peaceful days with me deciding that I
want our friendship back. Because I don’t. I’m
not trying to sound harsh here, but I want to make my feelings clear to
you. As far as I’m concerned, you and I
work together, and that’s it. Our
friendship is over. And we can never get
that back again.
DAMIEN
is standing in the living room when FELICA walks into the apartment and drops
her suitcase on the floor.
FELICIA
Damn,
Damien. Why didn’t you answer the
phone? I had to lug this bag all the way
up two flights of stairs.
DAMIEN
Hello
Felicia. How was your aunt?
FELICIA
Oh,
that woman ain’t going anywhere. I think she’ll give to be 200 years old.
DAMIEN
It
sounds like she’s getting better.
FELICIA
I’m
starting to think that old bat is a hypochondriac. So what’s up with you? Why are you just standing there acting all
weird?
DAMIEN
Felicia,
we need to talk.
FELICIA
You’re
right, we do. I need to give notice to
my landlord if I’m going to move all my things in here by the end of the month.
DAMIEN
Look,
that’s not going to be happening now.
FELICIA
What
do you mean?
DAMIEN
What
I mean, is that it’s over, Felicia. You
and I… are finished.
FELICIA
Come
again? What have you been smokin’, Damien?
DAMIEN
Felicia,
I’m going to be totally honest with you here.
I didn’t get back together with you because I loved you or wanted to be
with you. I did it to keep you from
ruining Barbara Whitman’s wedding.
FELICIA
You
WHAT?!
DAMIEN
What
kind of woman blackmails someone and threatens to destroy their life? You’re lower than low, Felicia. I wouldn’t want you back for real if you were
the last woman on earth.
FELICIA
Oh
no, you didn’t just say that. You were
playing me for a fool this whole time? To protect your precious Barbara? Oh, hell no.
Forget the money, I’m going over to that mansion and blowing that bitch
out of the water.
DAMIEN
It’s
too late for that, Felicia. Paul knows
the truth. He humiliated Barbara on
their wedding day in front a church full of people.
FELICIA
You’re
kidding me.
DAMIEN
Nope. So your little blackmail scheme is over. Go find someone new to torture. Barbara’s life is in shambles.
FELICIA
You
know what, Damien? I didn’t think you
had it in you. I was a little suspicious
when this whole getting back together thing came up. But I didn’t think you had a devious bone in
your body.
DAMIEN
I
don’t consider it devious, Felicia. You
got what you deserved. You thought you
held all the cards, but you were nothing but a sucker.
FELICIA
Damn,
you have no idea who you’re talking that way to, do you?
DAMIEN
Of
course I do. I thought I saw some
goodness in you, but obviously there is none.
So why don’t you pick up that suitcase, and get the hell out of my
apartment.
FELICIA
Oh,
Damien. You are so, so smug right
now. Boy, you don’t realize what you
have done.
DAMIEN
And
what have done, Felicia? Give you a
little of your own medicine?
FELICIA
No,
what you’ve done is unleashed the beast.
You thought I was a bitch before?
Oh baby, you ain’t seen nothing
yet.
DAMIEN
There’s
nothing you can do to me, Felicia. I’m
through with you. I want you out of my
life forever.
FELICIA
Oh,
that’s fine, mister Damien. But you better watch your back. You have betrayed me in the worst way, and
for that, there’s going to be some nasty payback.
DAMIEN
Just
let it go, Felicia. Let’s both move on.
FELICIA
You
go right ahead, and move on to your next damsel in distress. But you better keep one eye over your
shoulder little boy. Because
I’m coming after you. You hear
that? And we’ll see who the real sucker
is around here.
