INT. RAMOS ESTATE - NIGHT

PAUL is sitting in his study when an anxious MIRANDA walks in.

MIRANDA

Hello Paul.

PAUL

Hi Miranda.

MIRANDA

How are you doing?  You didn’t come home last night.

PAUL

I needed to get away to try and clear my head.  Unfortunately it didn’t work.

MIRANDA

I’m so sorry I had to be the one to tell you the truth about Barbara, but I felt I had no other choice.

PAUL

It’s alright Miranda.  I took everything you told me and did a little digging on my own and things became crystal clear for me.

MIRANDA

Look, Paul, I know you’re probably worn out and mentally exhausted, but there’s something I wanted to talk to you about.

PAUL

Well, you’re right about that, Miranda.  (sighs) But why not?  What is it?

MIRANDA

Do you remember the conversation we had before the wedding about finding that special someone?

PAUL

Yes.  And what a fool I was to believe I had actually found that person in Barbara.

MIRANDA

And do you also remember that I told you there was someone special in my life, only he didn’t know my true feelings?

PAUL

I seem to recall that.  Has there been a new development?

MIRANDA

Well, in a way.  I’m ready to tell him the truth and see what happens.

PAUL

That’s great, Miranda.  Maybe one of us can find some happiness at least.

MIRANDA

Actually, I’m hoping we both can.

PAUL

I’m not sure what you mean.

MIRANDA

Paul, the man that I have feelings for  is you.

INT. SUTTER’S MILL - NIGHT

ASHLEY is talking with ELIJAH at the bar while ARDEN takes a customer’s order across the room.

ELIJAH

How is Arden holding up?  I’m sure she’s upset about her aunt.

ASHLEY

Yeah, she’s been out looking all over Rockland for her, but no one has seen her.  I guess she disappeared after the wedding.

ELIJAH

If I could help find her aunt, Arden would be eternally grateful to me.

ASHLEY

You’re always scheming, aren’t you, Elijah?

ELIJAH

I thought we had an understanding, Ashley.  I want Arden and you want Dante.  You should be helping me come up with ways to get on Arden’s good side.

Arden walks up.

ARDEN

(sounding kind of down)

Hey Elijah.

ELIJAH

Hi Arden.  How are you holding up?

ARDEN

I’m fine.  It’s my Aunt Barbara that I’m worried about.

ELIJAH

I’m so sorry about what happened at the wedding.  Maybe I can help you find her.

ARDEN

How could you do that?  Brian and I have looked everywhere we can think of for her.

ELIJAH

Well, my mother saw her at the Ramos estate after the wedding.  Maybe she said something about where she was going.

ARDEN

Really?  Would you mind asking her, Elijah?  Any clue would be great right now.

ELIJAH

Anything for you, Arden.

Dante walks up.

DANTE

Hey, there you are.  I haven’t seen you since before the wedding.

ARDEN

Dante, I’ve been and out looking for Barbara.  I can’t believe your father did that to her on her wedding day.

DANTE

My father?  Arden, he may have been a little spiteful, but she was cheating on him and lying to him from the first day they met.  I liked Barbara, but obviously she had a lot of secrets.

ARDEN

Well, I would love to hear HER side of the story.  And no, I wouldn’t say what your father did was just a “little” spiteful.  It was awful.  I wonder if he ever loved her at all.

DANTE

Arden, you have to be kidding me.

ASHLEY

Arden, look at it from Dante’s point of view.  Your aunt did cheat on his father.

DANTE

Look, I hate to ask this, but it’s eating me up inside and I think we should just get this out in the open.  Did you know about all this before the wedding?

ARDEN

What?!  Are you accusing me of lying to you, Dante?

DANTE

Okay, obviously you didn’t know.  That’s fine, but I needed to ask the question.

ARDEN

It’s good to know how much faith you have in me.  I have to go check on a customer.

Arden stomps off in a huff.

ELIJAH

Smooth, Dante.  Real smooth.

DANTE

Shut your pie hole, Elijah.

ASHLEY

Yeah, get lost, Elijah.  Can’t you see Dante’s been through enough?

ELIJAH

Whatever.  I have to get going anyway.

Elijah leaves.

ASHLEY

Sorry about him.  I know this much be a rough time for you and your Dad.

DANTE

Thanks, Ashley.  You’re the first person who has even tried to see it from his point of view.

ASHLEY

Hey, if you ever need to talk or anything, you know where to find me.

DANTE

I appreciate that.  I may just take you up on that offer someday.
