ANGELA
and BRIAN are sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace enjoying a bottle
of red wine.
ANGELA
So
Brian, I hope you don’t think I’m being too forward here, but I was
thinking… If you’re going to be working
in
BRIAN
Well,
I had thought about that, but I wasn’t sure what you think about it. It’s not like I won’t be over here every
night possible.
ANGELA
Exactly,
and we could split expenses and maybe even share rides to work since the psych
center and the burn unit aren’t that far apart.
BRIAN
I
think it sounds like an excellent idea.
And I can’t believe I’m saying this since a year ago I was known as the
eternal bachelor.
ANGELA
You
were? And what changed?
BRIAN
Come
on, I think you know it was meeting a gorgeous doctor online.
ANGELA
I’ll
never forget the first day I saw your profile.
I never would have guessed we’d be making plans to move in together a
year later.
BRIAN
One
thing I’ve learned about life is to expect the unexpected.
ANGELA
You
mean like my best friend stalking me and trying to kill herself?
BRIAN
Well,
that goes even beyond unexpected and into the extremely strange category.
ANGELA
At
least she’s doing better, and out of the hospital. I’m not sure what I’ll say to her when she
comes back to work.
BRIAN
Yeah,
that’s not going to be easy.
ANGELA
Speaking
of not easy, I think we should invite your mother over here for dinner. I want to get to know her better.
BRIAN
Angela,
I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.
ANGELA
Why
not? She’ll have to love me once she
gets to know me, right?
BRIAN
Oh,
if only things were that simple with my mother.
BARBARA
is talking with MIRANDA who is working late.
BARBARA
You’re
here pretty late tonight, Miranda.
MIRANDA
Well,
I had to finish up a few things.
BARBARA
Paul’s
working late at the office tonight since he’ll be off the next two weeks on our
luxurious honeymoon.
MIRANDA
(not so convincingly)
How
nice.
The
phone rings.
BARBARA
I’ll
get it Miranda.
Barbara
answers the call.
BARBARA
Hello.
DAMIEN
Barbara,
it’s Damien.
BARBARA
Oh,
uh, hold on…. Miranda, could you excuse me?
This is a personal call.
MIRANDA
Of course.
Miranda
walks out of the room.
BARBARA
Damien,
what are you doing calling here? What if
Paul answered?
DAMIEN
Then
I would say I was calling for Dante.
Look, I wanted to make sure you hadn’t heard from Felicia again since we
talked.
BARBARA
No,
I haven’t. Thanks for putting a muzzle
on for me. I can’t believe that witch
was trying to blackmail me again.
DAMIEN
Well,
it wasn’t easy. She thinks we’re back
together.
BARBARA
Back
together! Damien, no. I feel bad you have to be anywhere near
Felicia. But my wedding is tomorrow and
she won’t be able to touch me after that.
I just can’t have Paul find out that you and I were still sleeping
together after I moved into this house.
DAMIEN
Barbara,
I hope this proves to you how much you meant to me. And still do.
BARBARA
It
does, it really does. But we weren’t
right for each other and me being blackmailed and having to pay off Felicia
only proves it wasn’t good for either of us.
You need to find someone your own age to date, so you can double date
with Dante and Arden. That’s the best
thing you could do for yourself.
DAMIEN
Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I’ll see you at
the wedding tomorrow, but we probably won’t get a chance to talk. Take care of yourself, Barbara.
BARBARA
Thanks,
Damien. You too.
Barbara
hangs up
BARBARA
(to herself)
Hmmm,
I think I need a nice, long bubble bath.
Barbara
walks upstairs and Miranda walks back into the room.
MIRANDA
I
knew it! That witch has been cheating on
Paul all along.
Miranda
picks up the phone and calls Paul.
MIRANDA
Paul,
it’s Miranda. I need to talk to you
right away.
