INT. ROCKLAND HOSPITAL - DAY

MANNY is in the third floor waiting room talking with ANGELA.

ANGELA

The doctor said Karen could wake up any time.  He actually expected her to wake up yesterday.

MANNY

Maybe she doesn’t want to wake up.

ANGELA

I tried to reach her Mom but her phone number has changed.  I hate to see her go through this all alone.

MANNY

You’re really amazing, Angela.  You know that?  For you to care so much about Karen right now after what she did to you…

ANGELA

Manny, she was my best friend for years.   I’m furious with her and don’t know how I’ll ever forgive her, but I don’t want her dead.

Brian walks up.

BRIAN

Angela, I came as soon as I could.  I had to pull a double shift at the hospital.

ANGELA

I’m just glad you’re here now.

BRIAN

How’s Karen?

ANGELA

They pumped her stomach and expected her to wake up by now but she hasn’t.

BRIAN

I can’t believe she was desperate enough to try to kill herself.

MANNY

It was pretty horrific seeing her lifeless body on the floor when I found her.

BRIAN

Hello Manny.

MANNY

Hi.  Look, we’re bound to run into each other from time to time, and I don’t want there to be any awkwardness between us.

ANGELA

Manny, there’s no reason for us to ever run into each other.   This is a special circumstance.

MANNY

I was hoping that someday we could get past all the hurt and anger and become friends again.

ANGELA

I’m sorry, Manny, but that’s just not going to happen.

INT. RAMOS ESTATE - DAY

BARBARA has just walked out the front door and closed it as FELICIA appears.

BARBARA

(startled)

Oh, God, you scared me.  What the hell are you doing here?

FELICIA

Barbara, Barbara.  You know what they say about the January blues.  I was a very generous little elf this year at Christmas time.

BARBARA

You’re not making any sense.  I told you not to ever come back here.

FELICIA

Do you honestly think I’m going to take orders from you?  Get a grip, honey.  I hold all the cards in this little game.

BARBARA

I gave you the money you wanted, Felicia.  There’s nothing else I can do for you.

FELICIA

That’s where you’re wrong.  Because I’m just about to run out of that last stash and I need a little more to tide me over.

BARBARA

I’m not giving you another dime.   Forget about it.

FELICIA

Oh Barbara.  I saw your wedding announcement in the paper so don’t even try to tell me that you aren’t rolling in cash right now.

BARBARA

Felicia, I’m perfectly willing to go to the police if I have to.  I’m not going to let you extort money from me again.

FELICIA

Uh huh.  Tell me another one.  If you even think about calling the police, you’ll see my face on the Channel 6 news tonight spilling my guts about how you stole my lover while engaged to Paul Ramos.

BARBARA

That’s not how it happened at all.   Damien dumped you because you’re an overbearing shrew, not because of me.

FELICIA

Let’s cut to the chase here.  I want ten thousand dollars by the end of next week, Barbara.   You can come up with the money, or forget about your happy little wedding.  It’s up to you.
