ELIJAH
Not
exactly. I agreed to go talk to the owner of the other
Mercury Marquis and I did just that.
ELIJAH
And?
And, his car
has been on blocks since March and he has a neighborhood full of witnesses to
prove it.
ELIJAH
Okay. Then Caroline must be wrong about the car she
saw.
Possibly.
But isn’t it strange that we tracked this car down and it belonged to
someone she knows.
ELIJAH
Look, I don’t
know Caroline Hart. I mostly know of
her. I’ve seen her a few times here and
there over the years. But I certainly
have no reason to want to hurt her.
So you keep
saying.
ELIJAH
Look,
What if I
told you a new witness had come forward that verified that it was your car that
tried to hit Caroline?
ELIJAH
Then I would
say you’re lying. Seriously,
Hey, go right
ahead. Paul might be happy to find out
there is a suspect other than him.
ELIJAH
Whatever.
I think you should go. I have
things to do around here.
Fine.
But this investigation isn’t closed.
I’ll be in touch.
ELIJAH
(to himself)
Just stay
calm. No one if going to be able to trace
Mom to this hit and run as long as I keep my cool.
ANGELA is
talking to BRIAN in the cafeteria.
BRIAN
Angela, I
must say, you’re looking particularly gorgeous today.
ANGELA
Oh, doctor,
you know flattery will get you everywhere with me.
BRIAN
Hmmm,
good to know.
ANGELA
But
seriously, I came into the city to talk to you about something and I hope it
doesn’t dampen the mood.
BRIAN
Uh oh.
What happened?
ANGELA
I know this
can probably be attributed to some big miscommunication, but Karen swears you
were flirting with her at Sutter’s Mill before I met you guys for dinner.
BRIAN
Flirting with
her? Are you serious? Angela, that’s not true.
ANGELA
I told her you
wouldn’t do that, but she doesn’t know you the way that I do.
BRIAN
Look, there
is no way I gave her any mixed signals at that dinner. I don’t know where this is coming from.
ANGELA
Neither do I. And that’s not the
only strange thing that happened. Not
long after she finished telling me this, she received an anonymous note just
like the love letters I was receiving from my secret admirer.
BRIAN
You’re
kidding. And they weren’t signed?
ANGELA
No. Brian, I think the same person who was
writing to me, is now writing to Karen.
And I don’t want you to hold it against her, but I think deep down she
believes it’s you.
BRIAN
Then there’s
only one thing to do about it. I need to
go talk to Karen about this the second my shift is over.
IAN is
talking with CYRUS at the nurse’s station.
IAN
Cyrus, do you
know the combination to the patient’s room doors? Are they all the same?
CYRUS
Oh, those
rooms are kept very secure. Karen and
the other nurse’s know, but we’re not allowed to enter a patient’s room unless
a doctor specifically asks us to go there.
IAN
So are you
saying you don’t know the combination or just that we shouldn’t go into a
patient’s room?
CYRUS
Ian, may I
ask why you’re so curious? Just a piece of
advice, it’s better to keep your nose clean around this place, and just focus
on the job you’re here to do.
IAN
Thanks, but I
have my reasons for wanting to know.
CYRUS
Do you care
to share?
IAN
Sorry, Cyrus,
but I can’t.
Dee Levin
walks up and is shocked to see Ian.
Ian Levin,
what are you doing here? (gasps) Oh my God, are you WORKING here?
CYRUS
Levin? I thought your name was Ian Thompson.
IAN
It is.
Like hell it
is. Why in the world would they hire you
at this hospital knowing your father is a patient here?
CYRUS
Wait a
minute. That’s where I’ve heard that
name before. Dan Levin is your father?!!
IAN
Yes. But Cyrus, you can’t say anything to anyone,
okay?
CYRUS
You mean no
one knows about this? Even
Dr. Givens?
IAN
No. And she can’t. Please do this for me. I haven’t seen my Dad since I was a kid, and
now that he’s back in
