ANGELA is
leaving her office after a long evening dealing with Dan Levin when she runs
into IAN.
IAN
Hi there.
ANGELA
Hello. You’re the new intern, right?
IAN
Yes. Ian.
ANGELA
Ian. Hmmm. What’s your last night? I don’t remember seeing your application.
IAN
It’s
Thompson. Ian Thompson.
ANGELA
That’s
strange. Dr. Wexler and I consulted on
all the interns that started this fall.
IAN
I sort of
submitted by resume at the last minute and talked to Dr. Wexler. I hope it’s not a problem.
ANGELA
No, no. It’s fine.
Why don’t you stop by my office and we’ll chat tomorrow? It’s been a long day for me, and I’m meeting
some friends for dinner.
IAN
Sure. I’d be happy to do that.
ANGELA
Great.
Have a good night, Ian.
IAN
Thanks. You too.
Angela walks
away.
IAN
I thought
you’d never leave.
Ian makes his
way into the hallway that leads to the patient’s rooms and he walks up to Dan’s
room.
IAN
Here it
is.
Ian tries to
open the door but it’s locked.
IAN
It’s
locked. Dammit. I want to see you, Dad. I have to find a way to get into this room.
KAREN is
having dinner with BRIAN.
KAREN
I hope things
won’t be too awkward for you with Manny Ramos sitting right over there.
BRIAN
No. Why would it?
He introduced himself to Angela and I at dinner
one night, when we first met.
KAREN
You mean you
don’t know? Manny and Angela dated for
two years and almost got married.
Everyone thought they were the perfect couple.
BRIAN
Actually,
Angela hasn’t talked much about that.
What happened? If
you don’t mind me asking.
KAREN
Manny ran out
on her. Broke her
heart, the poor girl.
BRIAN
Oh. I didn’t realize.
KAREN
But
enough about him. Tell me all about you, Brian. I’ve heard it all from Angela but now I want
to hear it from the horse’s mouth. Figuratively speaking, of course.
BRIAN
Well, I’m a
burn specialist at
KAREN
Interesting.
And I’m sure you had a lot of girlfriends along the way. Broke a few hearts.
BRIAN
Uh,
not really. I dated, sure, but I was always too busy
studying or working to ever have time for any of that.
KAREN
And now
things have changed?
BRIAN
A bit.
My life is still pretty hectic, but I’m able to make time for things
that are important to me. Like your best
friend.
KAREN
That is so
sweet, Brian. I can’t tell you how much
I want things to work out between you and Angela.
