EXT. ROCKLAND CONSTRUCTION - DAY

Channel 6 News reporter KYLE CARPENTER is reporting live from the fire at the Rockland Construction corporate offices

KYLE

This is Kyle Carpenter reporting to your live from Nyack, New York, where an explosion was heard earlier at the corporate offices of Rockland Construction.  Shortly after, a fire broke out which quickly engulfed the entire right wing of the building.  Firefighters are on the scene doing their best, but I’m not sure what will be left here when the flames burn out.  No word yet on where the explosion came from that started this fiery scene.  That’s it for now.  Back to you, Rick, in the Channel 6 studios.

Kyle puts down is microphone.

KYLE

That’s a wrap.  Let’s get the hell out of here.  This place is a goner.

Caroline overhears Kyle and gets annoyed and stomps over to confront him with Laurence following her.

CAROLINE

Look, I know you don’t have any vested interest in this place, but do you see all these people standing around here.  Rockland Construction is their life.  Their livelihood.   So maybe you should keep your comments to yourself.

KYLE

Simmer down, honey.  Don’t take it so personally.

CAROLINE

Don’t take it personally?  I’ve dedicated the last ten years of my life to this place.   That building meant something to me.

KYLE

We all have our issues, lady.   I’m sure you’ll get over it.

LAURENCE

Hey buddy.  Don’t talk to the lady like that.  Can’t you see she’s upset?

KYLE

And just who may I ask are you?

LAURENCE

I’m the guy who’s going to kick your ass if you don’t start showing some respect.

INT. RAMAPO TOWN PARK - DAY

BARBARA is waiting by the picnic area when FELICA arrives.

FELICIA

There you are.  I wasn’t sure if you were going to show.

BARBARA

You’re late.  I don’t have all day to stand around this dirty old park and wait for you.

FELICIA

Of course you do.  Because you have no other choice.  Now do you have my money or not?

BARBARA

It’s right here.  But first, let me make something clear.  This is first and ONLY time you will EVER extort money from me.  You got it?

FELICIA

Oh honey, you are not exactly in a position to be talking to me in that tone.  Hand it over.

BARBARA

I’m telling you, Felicia, if you say a word about this to Paul, I’ll…

FELICIA

You’ll what?!!  Yeah, that’s right.  That’s what I thought.

BARBARA

Just take the damn money.  I have to go.

FELICIA

Gladly.

Felicia snatches the money out of Barbara’s hand.

FELICIA

Mmmm.  I can smell the green.

BARBARA

I hope you choke on it.

Barbara walks away.

FELICIA

Oh Barbara.  Little do you know this is just the first of many in your installment plan.

INT. ANGELA GIVENS HOUSE IN NYACK - DAY

ANGELA is lying in bed with BRIAN after they have made love for the first time.

ANGELA

I can’t believe I’m lying in bed at five in the afternoon.

BRIAN

I hope it was worth leaving work early for.

ANGELA

(half giggle)

Oh, it was.  I’m so happy we’re back on track.  I can’t believe I almost ruined it by doubting you.

BRIAN

That whole secret admirer thing is pretty creepy.  But you haven’t heard from him in a while so hopefully it’s over.

ANGELA

I don’t even want to think about that anymore.  I just want to focus on the future.

BRIAN

I hope you see me when you think about the future, Angela.  Because I definitely see you.

The telephone rings on the nightstand by the bed.

ANGELA

Ugh, I should have turned the ringer off.

BRIAN

It’s okay.

ANGELA

I’m sorry, Brian.  It might be the hospital.

BRIAN

Hey, I’m a doctor.  I completely understand.

Angela picks up the call.

ANGELA

Hello.

KAREN

Angela, it’s Karen.  What are you doing at home?  Are you sick?

ANGELA

Oh hi Karen.  I didn’t get a chance to talk to you before I left.  Brian stopped by and I decided to take the rest of the day off since my calendar was clear.

KAREN

Oh.  You’re with Brian?

ANGELA

Oh yes.  Very much so.

KAREN

What does that mean?

ANGELA

I think you can figure it out.

KAREN

Angela, you slept with him!!!!

ANGELA

Yes.  But look, I’m kind of in the middle of something here, so we’ll talk later.  Or tomorrow.  Okay?

KAREN

But…

ANGELA

(rushing her off)

Bye.

Angela quickly hangs up.

ANGELA

It was just Karen.

BRIAN

Good.  Now where were we?

INT. DEE LEVIN’s OFFICE AT THE NYACK POLICE DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

DEE is talking with her nephew, IAN.

DEE

Ian, it’s great to see you, it really is, but unfortunately all hell is breaking loose around here.  Can I take a rain check?

IAN

Sure.  Fine.  What’s another three years in the grand scheme of things?  It’s not like we’re really family anyway.

DEE

Bite your tongue, Ian Levin.  We are family and don’t you ever forget it.

IAN

Dan Levin may be my biological father, but he’s been in and out of psych wards my whole live so much that I don’t even know him.  And you, you’ve been way to busy with your job to care.  My Mom and sister are my family, not the Levins.

DEE

Look, Dan has obviously been on your mind lately and that’s why you stopped by.  I’m sure having him back in Rockland County makes you think about it even more.  But I don’t think it’s best if he sees you or your sister right now, Ian.  He wouldn’t want you to see him in a bad state of mind.

IAN

But that’s never going to change, so when can I see him?

DEE

Soon.  I promise.

IAN

Well, it might be sooner than you think.

DEE

What is that supposed to mean?

Caroline Hart rushes into the office.

CAROLINE

Dee.  We have to talk.   Oh, hi.

DEE

Caroline, I heard about the fire, are you alright?

CAROLINE

I’m fine, but I want a full investigation into why this happened.  Too many bad things have happened to me lately with no answers.

DEE

Well, if you’re talking about the almost hit-and-run, then I do have some answers for you.

CAROLINE

What do you mean?

DEE

I think we’ve found the car that tried to run you down.
