BARBARA is
talking to MIRANDA in the family room.
MIRANDA
Are you
feeling better, Ms. Whitman?
BARBARA
A
little. Thanks.
MIRANDA
That
sister-in-law of yours was certainly rude.
BARBARA
Ex
sister-in-law, and yes, she’s always been pretty nasty.
Paul walks
in.
PAUL
Hello ladies.
MIRANDA
Oh, hello
Paul. How was your day?
PAUL
It was very
productive. And how are you, sweetheart?
BARBARA
I’m
alright. Been a long
day.
MIRANDA
We had an
unpleasant visitor earlier.
PAUL
Oh?
BARBARA
That was
nothing. Miranda, will you excuse us
please?
MIRANDA
Oh,
alright. I’ll be in the kitchen checking
on dinner.
PAUL
Thank you,
Miranda.
Miranda walks
away.
PAUL
What was that
about an unpleasant visitor?
BARBARA
Oh, don’t pay
any attention to Miranda. She’s just
being dramatic. But did you notice how
SHE was the one who greeted your first, and not me?
PAUL
Well, Miranda
and I have been together a long time, Barbara.
She’s been greeting me after a long day of work for many years.
BARBARA
Sometimes I’d
swear she has stars in her eyes when she’s looking at you.
PAUL
Oh, don’t be
silly. Miranda?
BARBARA
A woman
notices these things.
PAUL
So I was
trying to plan a romantic getaway for this weekend for us, but unfortunately I
have a very tenuous deal for L&R that I have to keep my eye on.
BARBARA
Oh, well
that’s okay. We’ll go away another time.
PAUL
But I had
very specific motives for this particular weekend.
BARBARA
Oh yeah?
PAUL
And I decided
on the way that I wouldn’t wait on this one second longer. I could wait for the perfect moment and it
never come so Barbara…
Paul gets
down on one knee.
PAUL
Will you do
me the honor of becoming my wife?
BARBARA
Paul. I don’t know what to say.
PAUL
There’s only
one correct answer here, Barbara.
BARBARA
Then I hope
that it’s yes, because that’s my answer.
Yes! I’d love to marry you.
Paul stands
up and kisses Barbara.
BRIAN walks
up to the nurse’s station where KAREN is working.
BRIAN
Hi
Karen. Is Angela in her office?
KAREN
Brian! What are you doing here?
BRIAN
I’m here to
see her. She left me a voice mail and I
called earlier and found out she was in today so I decided to come talk to her
in person.
KAREN
Brian, I’m
not sure that’s such a good idea. I
don’t think Angela wants to see you.
BRIAN
But we need
to talk and I’m tired of playing phone tag with her.
Angela walks
up.
ANGELA
Brian. Hi.
BRIAN
Angela, I got
your message. I thought we should talk
face to face. Apparently you never
received the message I left for you at home the other day.
ANGELA
You left a
message on my answering machine?
BRIAN
Yes! I’m not sure what happened. We really need to talk.
ANGELA
I agree.
KAREN
Angela, are
you sure about this?
ANGELA
Yes. Brian, let’s go into my office.
CYRUS has
just arrived and is talking to DAMIEN who is sitting at the bar.
CYRUS
Damien,
hi. I’m glad I caught you. Are you working today?
DAMIEN
Yes, but my
shift doesn’t start for a while. What’s
up?
CYRUS
Well, I’ve
had something on my mind and I wasn’t going to say anything, but I finally
convinced myself that I should just get this out and in the open.
DAMIEN
I could tell
there’s been something on your mind for a while. Is there a problem at the hospital?
CYRUS
No, this
isn’t a problem. At
least not for me. But it may be
for you.
DAMIEN
I don’t
understand. How does this concern me?
CYRUS
Damien, I’m
not sure how to put this. I like you.
DAMIEN
That’s cool,
man. I like you too.
CYRUS
No,
Damien. I REALLY like you.
