INT. RAMOS ESTATE - DAY

BARBARA is sitting in the family room when MIRANDA escorts EVE in.

MIRANDA

You have a visitor, Ms. Whitman.

BARBARA

(sees Eve)

Oh God.

EVE

Hello Barbara.  It’s been a long time.

BARBARA

Not long enough.  Miranda, can you escort this “woman” out of here?

MIRANDA

Oh, uh, alright.  She said she was family.

BARBARA

Hardly.

EVE

Oh, Barbara, we haven’t seen each other in years, and you’re going to turn me away like this?  I thought you’d at least invite me in for tea.

BARBARA

Eve, I don’t know how you tracked me down, but I want no part of you so get the hell out of here.

EVE

Have you heard from Frank lately?

BARBARA

No, I haven’t, and it’s been wonderful.

EVE

I can’t believe I ever fell for your no good, cheat of a brother.

BARBARA

(looks up to the sky)

God, what did I do to deserve this?  It’s like my entire past is haunting me lately.

EVE

You’re looking a little rough around the edges, Barbara.  Are you getting enough sleep?

BARBARA

Get out of here, Eve!  Miranda, get her OUT!

MIRANDA

Yes, man.  I’m sorry miss, but you’ll have to go.

EVE

You really think you’re all high and mighty having your maid throw me out, don’t you.

MIRANDA

I’m not a maid.  I’m the housekeeper here.

EVE

Whatever, honey.  Enjoy it while it lasts, Barbara.  Something tells me you’re living in a house of cards.

BARBARA

Go back to Vermont and crawl into bed with the first loser you see.  No one wants you here.  Your kids sure don’t.

EVE

I know you’ve been turning them against me.  You’re gonna pay for that.

BARBARA

Oh please.  What could you possibly do to me?

EVE

Well, I’m not leaving New York so you may just have the chance to find out.

INT. SUTTER’S MILL - NIGHT

DANTE is sitting at the bar talking with DAMIEN and ARDEN, who is working her first shift.

DANTE

So how’s your first night going, Arden?

ARDEN

Let’s see, I’ve spill drinks on two people, and nearly tripped with a huge tray of food, but other than that, things are wonderful.

DANTE

(laughs)

First days are always the worst.

DAMIEN

I remember my first day here.  This one guy had a few too many drinks, and I had to cut him off.  It wasn’t pretty.

Elijah walks up and sits down at the bar next to Damien.

ELIJAH

Hello everyone.

DAMIEN

Hey Elijah.  What can I get for you?

ELIJAH

I’ll have a Jack and Coke.

DAMIEN

You got it.

Damien starts making the drink.

ELIJAH

(notices Arden)

Hello there!

ARDEN

Hi.

DANTE

That’s my girlfriend, Arden.

ARDEN

I am?

DANTE

Well, yeah.  Right?

ARDEN

(laughs)

I guess I am.

ELIJAH

Geez, Dante.  She doesn’t sound too sure.  Maybe you’re not keeping her happy.

DANTE

Don’t be disrespectful, Eli.

ELIJAH

Don’t call me that.  It’s Elijah.

DANTE

Whatever.

ARDEN

Oh, the guy in the corner looks like he needs a refill.  I’ll be back.

Arden walks away.  Damien gives Elijah his drink.

DAMIEN

Here you go.

ELIJAH

Thanks.  (takes a drink)  You know, Dante.  That girlfriend of yours is pretty hot.

DANTE

You’re right.  And she would never give you the time of day.

ELIJAH

Is that a challenge?

DANTE

No.  Stay away from Arden, Eli.  And stay away from me too for that matter.

INT. ANGELA’S HOUSE IN NYACK - NIGHT

ANGELA has just arrived home from seeing a movie with KAREN.

ANGELA

Ah, home alone.  Again.

Angela walks over the answering machine.

ANGELA

No messages either.  He’s not going to call, Angela.  You’re wasting your time.

Angela walks into the kitchen.

ANGELA

But why do I feel like I need to talk to him right now?

Angela picks up the phone and dials Brian’s number.

ANGELA

Damn, his voice mail.  (beep) Brian, hi.  It’s me, Angela.  I guess you’re still mad at me since I haven’t heard from you, and I understand.  But I wanted to call and talk, just to at least have some closure to us, whatever we were.  Anyway, I don’t want to ramble on your voice mail, and I know I will if I keep talking so have a good night and call me.  I hope to hear from you.  Bye.

Angela hangs up.
