ANGELA and
CAROLINE are sitting at the bar talking to DAMIEN.
ANGELA
So the police
just dropped the investigation? You could
have been killed.
CAROLINE
They had no
evidence. But now that I know it was a
90s model Mercury Marquis, I think they may actually have a chance to track
this person down.
DAMIEN
How weird
that the person may have been here, at Sutter’s Mill.
CAROLINE
That person
wanted me dead, I’m sure of it. As much
as I want to know who it is, a part of me is afraid to know.
ANGELA
I thought you
were convinced it was Paul Ramos.
CAROLINE
Dee Levin is
convinced it’s not Paul. She is his
step-sister, but I think she’s being fair in this case. There’s just no reason to believe it was him,
based on the evidence.
Angela’s cell
phone rings.
ANGELA
Sorry, you
guys. (looks at
her phone) Oh, it’s Karen.
Angela
answers the call.
ANGELA
Hi Karen,
what’s up?
KAREN
Where are
you? I’m standing on your porch and
you’re nowhere to be found?
ANGELA
I thought we
were meeting at 2.
KAREN
We were, but
then we said 1. Where are you?
ANGELA
Ugh, I’m at
Sutter’s Mill talking to Damien. I’ll be
right over.
KAREN
(less than enthusiastic)
Alright.
ANGELA
Look, you
know where I keep my spare key. Just let
yourself in. I have some fresh baked
zucchini bread in the kitchen.
KAREN
Mmmm, sounds good.
ANGELA
It is. And I feel like stuffing my face all
afternoon today so be prepared.
KAREN
I take it
things are still on hold with Brian?
ANGELA
Yes. Why can’t I have any luck in that department?
KAREN
Maybe it just
wasn’t meant to be.
ANGELA
Well, we can
debate it when I get there. See you
soon.
KAREN
Okay.
ANGELA
Bye.
Angela
disconnects.
ANGELA
I have to go,
Karen is waiting for me.
Manny walks
up.
MANNY
Don’t leave
on my account.
ANGELA
Manny!
MANNY
Is everything
alright, Ang?
ANGELA
I’m just
fine, Manny. Enjoy your date. Call me later, Damien.
DAMIEN
Bye, sis.
Angela
leaves.
MANNY
Date?
She thinks we’re on a date?
CAROLINE
Let’s grab a
table.
KAREN has
just let herself in.
KAREN
Now where’s
that zucchini bread?
The phone
rings and Angela’s answering machine picks up.
ANGELA
Hi, this is
Angela. I can’t come to the phone right
now. Leave me a message and I’ll call
you back.
Beep.
BRIAN
Angela, it’s
me, Brian. Look, I got your message and
I was thinking that maybe we should get together and clear the air. I was upset the other day, but I don’t want
to trash what we were starting to build over some foolish pride. Give me a call and let’s talk, okay? I miss talking to you every day. Bye.
KAREN
Oh, how
sweet. (turns more vicious) But unfortunately Brian, Angela
is no longer available for a fairytale romance with YOU. Or Manny. Or any other man.
Karen deletes
Brian’s message.
KAREN
It’s time she
sees that there is only one person who truly loves her. ME.
