ROCKLAND COUNTY – EPISODE #19 – JULY 27, 2005 “THE BITTER AND THE SWEET”

WRITTEN BY ROGER NEWCOMB

INT. DR. ANGELA GIVENS OFFICE - DAY

KAREN has just arrived after being paged by ANGELA.

KAREN

What’s the big emergency?

ANGELA

Where were you last night?  I kept trying to call you.

KAREN

I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a few friends.  Why?

ANGELA

Karen, I got another anonymous letter last night and now I’m kind of freaked out.

KAREN

I thought you had a date with Brian last night.

ANGELA

I did.  And it was wonderful.  But after I got home I heard a noise on my porch and went outside and found the note.

KAREN

He was there?  At your house?!!

ANGELA

Yes!!  And the note said he was aching for my body and was going to have it soon.  Karen, if this is Cyrus, then I don’t know if I can work with him anymore.

KAREN

So now you think it was Cyrus?

ANGELA

I don’t know.  Would Manny actually write something so creepy to me?  I know he left suddenly and trashed our relationship five years ago, but this is sick.

KAREN

What are you going to do?

ANGELA

I’m going to call Dee Levin.  This guy is now at my house at night when I’m home alone.   It’s time I get the police involved.

INT. SUTTER’S MILL - NIGHT

DAMIEN is working at the bar when ELIJAH walks up.

DAMIEN

Hey there. What can I get for you?

ELIJAH

I’ll have a club soda.

DAMIEN

(stares at ELIJAH)

You look familiar. Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?

ELIJAH

Yes, but I’m not surprised you don’t remember.  You’re Damien, right?

DAMIEN

Yeah, that’s right? Sorry, but I couldn’t place your face.

ELIJAH

(sarcastically)

That’s ok.  It’s not like my mother hasn’t worked for Paul Ramos my entire life and we’ve seen each other a million times.  I’m Elijah Phillips.

DAMIEN

Oh.  Sorry.  I’m not that good at remember names and faces.

ELIJAH

Okay.  Whatever.   I suppose you’re still best friends with Dante Ramos?

DAMIEN

Yes, I am.  I haven’t seen him for the past few days since he has been out of town.  But we’ve been best friends for years.

ELIJAH

When is your “best friend” supposed to be back in town anyway?

DAMIEN

Today.   Are you looking for him?  You kind of sound as if you have an axe to grind with Dante.

ELIJAH

I just hate the fact that Dante Ramos never had to work a day in his life for everything he got.  It was all handed to him on a sliver platter and he doesn’t even appreciate it.  I don’t know how you be friends with the guy.

DAMIEN

Look, Elijah.  I don’t think you know Dante too well, because he is a nice guy.  I mean, we all have our issues, but if you spent some time with him, I think you’d see that there’s more to the man than meets the eye.

ELIJAH

Well, sorry, but I’ve been watching Dante and his father for my entire life and I don’t really have any desire to talk to him. And you know what, I’d be willing to bet that one day Dante will show you exactly the kind of guy he is, a true Ramos to a fault. Mark my words.

INT. ROCKLAND PSYCH CENTER CAFETERIA - DAY

KAREN walks up and sits down at a table where CYRUS is writing a note.

KAREN

Hey, do you mind if I join you?

CYRUS

No, of course not.

KAREN

So whatcha working on?

CYRUS

I was working on a letter.

KAREN

To your family back west?

CYRUS

No.  It’s to… do you remember when I was telling you about a crush I had on someone?  I’m trying to get the courage up to share my feelings.  I’m such a coward, I was thinking of writing a note to confess how I really feel.

KAREN

A note!  Oh my God.
